Too many ideas

Visit from the late night sermon pixies

As ever, there is a fine line between trusting the guidance you have already been given, and remaining attuned to any later insight. In general, I try not to change too much once Sunday comes around, but to use Sunday preparation time to prepare my heart and mind. Sometimes it feels a bit like a knight of old putting on layer after layer ready for battle. The only difference is – the preacher is stripping layers away rather than adding them on. In times of prayer the accretions of self-confidence and training get stripped away – leaving only a man or woman reliant on the God who has called them to preach.

How would you describe your final preparations to preach?
