The News is over

Stuck to the board above me as I type is a little scrap of paper bearing the words ‘less aspirational and more intentional’. It is a reminder (from Steve Gaukroger) that as a preacher, pastor, and communicator I should not just long for things or say the right things but should consciously seek to make them happen. I don’t always manage it, of course, and those are the times when message and messenger fall out of kilter with each other and I fail to deliver ‘what it says on the tin’.

One hundred and sixty eight years ago a new newspaper was established. It’s founding words were:

“Our motto is the truth, our practise is fearless advocacy of the truth”

The newspaper was the News of the World. Nuff said.
